Churchhouse Hammock Trail
Churchouse Hammock Trail is a walking distance from the resort (on the other side of the road). It’s a spectacular wildlife refuge that sees relatively little footfall, so you can experience a quiet closeness to nature. The trail is often muddy, so make sure you dress accordingly. There are no restrooms, but that might not be an issue considering its proximity to the resort.
Yeomans Park
It’s a beautiful natural preserve in the east of the resort. There are two trails, a long nature trail and a smaller one that leads to a creek. There are two pavilions and some picnic tables. Dogs are not allowed in Yeomans Park, so make different arrangements for your furry friend.

Little Springs Park, Creative Playground, and Wooden Park
Little Springs Park, Creative Playground, and Wooden Park are just one and a half miles down the road. Little Springs Park is true to its name, i.e., a cute little park for families. The amenities are limited, but you can definitely go for a grill. The Creative Wooden Park is an ideal place for small kids. Lots of swings and activities. The same goes for Wooden Park.
Coastal Heritage Museum
Another amazing place to gain insights into the local history is the Coastal Heritage Museum. It’s free to visit, very informative, and relatively small, so children aren’t likely to get bored. Make sure you call ahead to confirm that it’s open or just pop by when visiting a nearby attraction.

Fun 2 Dive – Swim with Manatees
Watching Manatees from afar or close by when you’re kayaking is an exceptional experience on its own, but if you don’t mind getting into the water, Fun 2 Dive is one local attraction you just can’t miss when you are in the Sweet Citrus Acres RV Resort. The wetsuits and snorkeling gear are provided and kept in excellent condition. The guides are informative and patient, and the “guests” (manatees) are very polite when you visit their homes.
Hunter Springs Park
As the name suggests, this particular local gem is home to a few natural springs and shallow waters you can easily swim in. You can also launch a kayak or a paddle boat here, but its crown jewel is the small swimming area they have developed, which resembles a very calm beach full of clean spring water. It’s also a great place for snorkeling.

Kings Bay Park
Kings Bay Park offers all the typical attractions of the area – manatees, beautiful nature, and calm waters where you can swim, snorkel, kayak, or canoe. Swimming is allowed, and you can also enjoy a BBQ, ideally with the catch of the day. The facility is clean and certainly not short on amenities, though parking can be slightly challenging to navigate. But you can take your trailer there to park.
Crystal River Fishing Company
If you are in the mood for some fishing, Crystal River Fishing Company is one of the most reputed names in the area. They offer full and half-day family-friendly charters, with a licensed and insured captain, incredibly well-versed in fishing. You are bound to have a great experience and enjoy a decent catch. The charters cover offshore fishing, onshore fishing, and scalloping.

Crystal River Archaeological State Park
Whether you are interested in history or beautiful natural sites, this is the perfect local attraction for you to visit. It’s a 61-acre site that served as an important ceremonial center for the natives for over 1,600 years in the pre-Columbian days. Burial mounds offer an impressive glimpse into the pages of history. Here, you’ll also find a small local museum with several artifacts. The park is full of necessary amenities, making it a comfortable place for families. Fishing is allowed, and you may catch fresh and saltwater fish if you pick the right sport to angle. It’s also a good place for bird watching.
Crystal River Preserve State Park
The Crystal River Preserve State Park is another impressive state park in the proximity of the resort. As a preserve, it allows you to witness wildlife in its natural habitat, and the manatees are easily the favorite of anyone who visits. You can get close to them if you are kayaking or can even swim with these gentle creatures. There is a seven-mile trail you can walk or cycle on. You can also go fishing (angling).

Three Sisters Springs
The Three Sisters Springs is another Manatee refuge (in the winter), but you cannot swim there. All in-water activities at the springs are accessible through Kings Bay and Hunter Spring Parts. However, there are guided tours in a beautiful trolley.
All these local attractions will take you a few minutes to reach when you are parked in the Sweet Citrus Acres RV Resort. If you’re open to going further North, South, and East, the pool of attractions becomes a bit larger. There is a ranch, an aquarium, multiple charters, and trails within a ten-mile distance.
Unless you are adamant about preparing your own food, you’ll find several good restaurants that add to the attraction of the area. About three are within a mile of the resort, and a dozen others are less than four miles down the road.
Crystal River has a lot to offer, starting with an exceptionally attractive and accommodating resort like ours, good food, amazing trails, natural springs, a plethora of activities (hiking, snorkeling, kayaking, etc.), and, of course – Manatees.
